(Watering Kitchen Garden)

KITCHEN GARDEN-IRRIGATION

The watering kitchen garden is a major part of this hobby. A proper quantity of water can flourish a plant while excess or less amount can destroy it either. Providing excess water can damage roots and stems while less watering can dry them. Actually, in winters and rainy season, plants require less watering and you should observe the surface of the soil. If it is dry out then
you should provide them tolerable water. It means you should provide small water in winters so that it must not stay for a longer time in containers or lawn.

Schedule

CARE AND TIME SCHEDULE FOR WATER

You must get proper knowledge of the native area of the plants you are selecting for your lawn. Plants form wet native places require a lot of water and sometimes less light, while desert native plants can survive for so many days or even a month without water. In summers, plants require plenty of water on alternate days.

Direct contact with sunshine often dried the soil very rapidly. It is recommended to provide them water in early morning or in the evening. Morning time is excellent for water as during the day excess water can be evaporated with heat. Evening water may cause some fungal diseases in plants just because overnight watering will help the fungus to grow in cool seasons. Try to avoid watering small plants in the severe hot noon, especially in summers. It will bring negative impact to the growth of your plant.

Do not leave the hoses unattended as it can spoil small plants. Generally, we use plastic hoses for watering the plants and pots. Always sprinkle the water on and around the roots of plants and try to avoid direct shower on leaves in routine. You may shower at leaves when they are showing prominent dust on them.

TYPES OF IRRIGATION

There are some other ways of watering kitchen garden available, details are as below.

DRIP IRRIGATION

Drip irrigation

This is the safest and valuable procedure for watering the plants. In this way of watering, Plastic pipes are being used to provide the water directly to the roots. Large bottles are being filled with water outside with a plastic pipe attached to them. These second end of the pipe is buried in the soil along the stem. Water passes slowly with the passage of time.

This type of irrigation is most popular in the areas that have water scarcity in there.  By drip irrigation, we can save the waste of water, as water does not evaporate with heat. Only required water reached to the roots. This also helps to intact dampness for a long time but avoid fungal properties from plants. It is a low-cost type of irrigation, as well.

WATER HOSE/HAND WATERING

Hose

As mentioned above, hoses are the most popular way to watering kitchen garden, lawn, and pots. These days, you can purchase different hose-heads according to your need. These heads are good for soft watering and delicate seedlings. Also, you can shower at different speeds for small and big trees and continuous watering for lawns. You can also stop the hose from the head without going to water taps.

Hand watering is considered a safe way, as you can judge the requirement of some specific plant. Small plants always require a tight schedule for them while big trees do not need much attention. They can be watered with long intervals as their roots are deep enough to strengthen them and to collect the food.

HAND SHOWERS

Hand Shower

This is also a traditional way of watering the plants. Once hand showers were available in metal form but now you can purchase a light material of plastic or carbon fiber. They are also available in different sizes; you can choose one according to your need. A small one of like 1 liter is quite enough for watering lobby plants while 5-10 liter capacity cans are sufficient for pots and containers.

SPRINKLES

Sprinkles

Sprinkles are also a hassle-free system to water the big lawns. You can turn it on by attaching a hose and let it do its work without monitoring and wasting your time. It can cover a good length of an area and it best to water the lawn grass.

Besides all its qualities, we can observe some problems in it. You cannot sprinkle the water when the wind is blowing in high pressure; it will give water to a specific side only. So, you should start it when the wind is in a normal mood. Secondly, it wastes a large quantity of water in shape of evaporation. It also moisturizes the surface of leaves and stems so, it may promote fungus to them.

The above-mentioned watering kitchen garden techniques are for home level only. I am not mentioning the unnecessary details of huge cultivations.
