No-one can win a battle without weapons, so, you must equip yourself first with proper tools to start. Kitchen gardening tools will help you to make your work easy. I am going to describe the functions of following kitchen gardening tools so that you can decide whether it is right for your need or not. Try to purchase some heavy duty kitchen gardening tools with good material like metallic ones with sharp edges. This will save the time and energy as sometimes you have to do hard work. These heavy duty tools will support until the end.

RAKE: The traditional tool that helps to level the soil and clear the ground with dried leaves. It is available in wooden, plastic or metal base shafts. It is necessary when you have a proper lawn, otherwise, no need of it.
FORK: Fork is useful to loosen up soil. It is formed to break the firm surface of the soil. It is a compulsory tool for kitchen gardening.
SPADE: Spade is necessary to dig a certain place for new plantations. Its curved and adequate length helps to make space for new plants. It is a must to kitchen gardening.
HAND TROWEL: Trowel or hand trowel is used to scoop out the small soil for new plants. Difference between spade and trowel is that it works for tiny holes and digging. Its pointed and curved blade also allows you to transplant or shift small plants. It is good for seasoning plants and vegetables. You need it anyway.
PRUNERS: Pruners are like scissors, it helps to remove dry or damaged leaves. Pruning is necessary for plant growth, so, it should be on your purchasing list with a mark "Most Important".
HOE: Available in different sizes; you can purchase the one according to your need. There are long handle hoes, also called Dutch Hoe, that is good to clear the weed in difficult areas. It also helps to prevent a backache. Warren Hoe is helpful in small works. You can use it in lawns and it is not much required for pots and containers. It is an optional choice but good one at times, so the choice is yours.
SAW: Saw is also a good tool for pruning long and small branches. There are options of blades; fixed blade is good for small trimming and bonsai plants. Again, it is up to you as it is an optional tool that can be replaced with simple Pruner.
SHEER: One can use it to trim the long grass. Try to purchase a lighter model so you can handle it easily. It is useful for lawns and not necessary if you are growing in containers.
LAWN MOWER: Choose a compact and smart lawn mower for your lawn. It captures a lot of space in storage. As it describes itself, it is to level the grass and only needed when you have a large lawn or landscape.
HOSE: Hose with a good material is a right choice. This should be light and its length should be according to the size of your space. A good one lasts for years when you drain out the remaining water from it. Keep it in shade after rolling it in rounds. You can find plenty of hose tops with different shapes try to fix one at the top according to the need. Buy one for all types of gardening.
SHOWER HOSE: Manual and electric showers are now available in the market that can manage the watering needs of your plants. You can place as many as you need. They are hassle free but many times it wastes the water in much quantity. Also, they spray the water at leaves and in wet season that could be dangerous for delicate leaves. So, if you have a large lawn then this is a good choice for a small lawn I personally, do not want this.
GARDEN CART / WHEEL BARROW: Good for heavy jobs, shifting becomes easy if you have one on your list. You can shift soil, fertilizer, plants, and garbage from one place to other.
LOPPERS: Kind of pruner for long reached thick branches and required when there are big trees in your lawn.
GARDEN KNIFE: Also known as Hori Hori Knife is a useful tool for transplanting and dividing branches.
EDGERS: If you have walkways or beds in your lawn or landscape then it will help you to make visible borders or lines for them. It works like a spade for good for creating lines and divisions.
SPRAY BOTTLE: It is a necessary addition to your shopping cart because on and off you will require it for pesticide and care. There are also large containers available in the market with a long hose for big areas. But kitchen garden can be handled with a spray bottle of 5-7 liters capacity.
GARDEN GLOVES: These are for safety and cleanliness. Do not compromise on them as there are many hidden bacteria in soils. Keep your hands dry as dampness can lead towards fungus.
WATERING-CAN: When you are growing some plants in pots or containers it is a most required item. They are available in metal and plastic material. A high-grade plastic can could be a long companion, so choose it at once.
SMALL POTS: To grow new seedlings and for shifting plants from one place to other, you require some pots and containers in different sizes.
LARGE POTS AND CONTAINERS: There must be at least small and medium pots available in your garden. You can have as many you can as they are needed time to time for growing plants and transplantations.
