DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPOSTING

(Composting types)

DIFFERENT COMPOSTING TYPES

There are different theories to the production of useful composting. But when it comes to kitchen gardening, you can prepare it within the house with limited resources and material. All that requires is proper technique and consistency to complete the job. In fact, you will be surprised to see
the result of composting and its work, thereafter. We will discuss the various composting types that are so easy and economical that you can start it at home.

TIME FRAME FOR COMPOSTING

Composting is a procedure that requires a period of 6-10 months. It is a test of your endurance that gives fruit at the end. Also, as I narrate earlier in my previous blog regarding composting material, there are tricks to accelerate the procedure. Be patient, and stick to your new experience.

SUITABLE PLACES FOR COMPOSTING

Compost can be made in a waste bin, abandoned plastic can or container, wire basket, cane basket, in a burrow of lawn or by making a heap in a corner. There is also a variety of purpose-built cans available in the market; you may select one of them, according to your need. Composting produces heat and material need to be shuffled with the intervals of 3-4 days. Air is also a necessary component to rotate within the bin or heap, so you should add more fibrous material. This material will allow air to move between the materials easily and helps to break down.
Following are five known ways for composting.

  1. BIN COMPOSTING
  1. PILE COMPOSTING
  1. TRENCH/PIT/DEN/BURROW COMPOSTING
  1. TUMBLER COMPOSTING
  1. VERMICOMPOSTING

1- BIN COMPOSTING

Composting types
You can add the required amount of waste or manure in layering in a waste bin or purpose build bins. Place it in a place where you can provide it with sunshine and shade as well. If you have a place under the open sky, you should cover it with a lid or cover to avoid excessive rainwater. But if you have placed your bin under the shade, you can leave it without covering.

2-PILE/HEAP COMPOSTING

Pile up the waste with proper layering and cover it with the plastic sheet to avoid excessive rainwater and early morning moisture.

3-TRENCH/PIT/DEN/BURROW COMPOSTING

Make a hole or den in your lawn and fill it with waste material with layering. Shuffle it time to time and cover to avoid rainwater.

4-TUMBLER COMPOSTING

Composting types
It is the best way to composting; you can add the material in purpose made tumbler drum. It is easy to shuffle or move. It mixes the material very well.

5-VERMI COMPOSTING

Vermi or Worm composting is an amazing way of composting. You can place a container, large tray or bin in a dark and moist place such as, under the sink, in your garage or in storage. Fill it with waste and add worms (Red wigglers are a good choice) and cover them with light and dry material of dry leaves or small pieces of newspaper. Now, leave everything to the worms. They will eat the waste and turn it into useful material.

Keep it moist but avoid overwatering as excessive water can drown the worms. You should also keep it away from direct, or excess heat as more temperature can be fatal for worms.
