ORGANIC PESTICIDES

In my previous blog, we have narrated about natural or organic pesticides. Here, we are describing some easy and homemade 12 organic pesticides for your kitchen garden. You need not visit a store to purchase these ingredients as many of them are available in your house. These are economical and effective.

  • You should first test these homemade sprays on few selective/effective leaves and monitor the reactions for one to two days. This could avoid any loss.
  • Use the best quality and preferably organic oils in spray
  • Liquid soap should be organic and should not contain bleach or other harmful chemicals
  • Wear the gloves to protect your hands as some of these ingredients may cause irritation to skin
  • Wear glasses to protect your eyes while preparation and spray
  • Put a mask to avoid inhaling the spray
  • Spray the natural pesticides on and under the leaves, at the stem and near the roots. Mostly aphid and other pests live under the leaves.
  • Organic liquid dish soap baby shampoo is a good choice in lieu of chemical soap.

VEGETABLE OIL SPRAY

Take 30 ml of good quality mineral oil and mix it with one liter of water. It is a remedy to get rid of insect’s eggs.

NEEM (INDIAN LILAC/AZADIRACHTA INDICA):
Boil 1 quart or 4 cups of water in a container with around 40-50 leaves of Neem. Let it cool and rest for an hour. Spray the liquid on leaves and stems. It is good for all types of plants and effective at almost all the insects. Neem leaves are bitter in taste and insects do not like to live on a bitter surface. Neem is most trusted and valuable ingredient that is used in many beauty products also. It is advised to grow one Neem plant if there is a space available in your compound.

NEEM OIL SPRAY

Neem oil and Soap
Take 2 quarts of warm water, add one tablespoon of organic Neem oil and add organic liquid soap 1 teaspoon. Stir well, at moderate temperature spray on plants.



SOAPY LIQUID SPRAY

Add 4 tablespoons of liquid soap to 8 cups of water and spray directly at plants. It is also an effective way to get rid of various types of pests.
 

  GARLIC SPRAY

Take 4 cloves of garlic grind it in a processor, add it to 2 tablespoons of oil and let it sit for 12 hours in a cool place. Strain out the garlic and add it to 1 pint of water. For more effectiveness add 1 teaspoon of liquid soap or dish soap. Now dilute it with water as required and spray on stems and leaves. This spray is effective against aphids, ladybirds, and moths.

CHILLI PEPPER SPRAY

Take 3-4 hot chili peppers along with one medium onion and 2-3 garlic cloves. Grind them well in a processor and add in soapy water (as described above). Let it rest for few hours in the refrigerator. Strain it well and add in a spray bottle to spray on plants. A weekly repetition or following the rain is a good strategy to defend your plants.

Keep the remaining in a refrigerator; it will be good for 15 to 20 days.

CLOVE AND PEPPER SPRAY

Take two cloves along with 2 tablespoons chili pepper and make a paste. Take two tablespoons of liquid soap and add it to 2 cups of water and strain. This spray is good for aphids, white fly etc.

SALT SPRAY

Add two tablespoon of rock salt in one gallon of warm water. At normal temperature spray it on your plants. It is effective against mites.

ALL IN ONE SPRAY

Take 2 garlic cloves, 1 medium onion, 1 inch of a ginger piece, ½ cup of red chili powder and make a paste. In a liter of water add two tablespoons of liquid soap and paste of all ingredients. Strain out in a spray bottle. This is the all-purpose organic pesticide sprays for all types of plants.

TOMATO LEAF SPRAY

These leaves can prevent aphids. Tomato leaves contain alkaloids in them that is toxic to pest and safe for plants and humans.

Take 30-40 tomato leaves and chop them well. Chopping will release their alkaloids. Now take 2 cups of water and soak the chopped leaves in it, over nightly. Strain well and spray on both sides of tomato leaves, stems and soil to get rid of aphids.
This spray is effective for tomato plants as well.

WHITE VINEGAR SPRAY

Vinegar
Add one cup of white vinegar in 4 cups of water and spray at tomato and other soft stem plants.





BAKING SODA, OIL, SOAP, AND WATER

Take half a gallon or two quarts of water and put in 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Add I tablespoon of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of dish soap(Organic one is a good choice). Mix well and fill in a spray bottle. This spray is an excellent form of organic pesticides and effective to various types of pests.

These are some simple and effective natural pesticides for your kitchen garden. Still, there are many options in organic material. But for a beginner, it could be impossible to work at all. Have patience and learn step by step. You will certainly, reach your destination.
