Directions are very important in kitchen gardening. Use a compass to locate the direction of your lawn or watch in the morning the direction of the sun. Sun rises in the East and sets in the West, stand while you are facing East, West is at opposite direction i.e. your backside. Now, the south will be at your right-hand side while North is in the opposite direction i.e. your left-hand side.
EASTERN FACING PLACE: You will get the soft to severe sunshine for 5-6 hours at the start of the day. This is best for vegetables and soft stem trees.
WESTERN FACING PLACE:
You will surely get 3-4 hours of moderate and severe sunshine when it is clear. It is also good for soft to medium hard stem plants. Some leafy vegetable grows excellent in it.
SOUTHERN FACING PLACE: It will get almost all day benefit of sunshine. It is ideal for all types of plants. You can make a shed to avoid the harshness of the sun for soft stem plants.
NORTHERN FACING PLACE: It gets the sunshine with very limited time. In winters, there is only 1-2 hour of sunshine is available on this side. This side is ideal for that need not much sunshine. You can grow large trees and some kind of small plants or grass at this side in a moderate season.
